For over a century, the Opera Paiata (in Italian Pagliacci), by the italian composer Ruggiero Leoncavallo, has conquered the hearts of the public and the great stages of the world, becoming the most famous opera of the composer. The work takes place on august 15, 1865, in the village of Montalto in Calabria, region of Southern Italy. The characters are members of a troupe of comedians who arrive in the village, namely the boss – Canio, his wife, Nedda,Tonio – who, due to his ugliness plays the jester and Beppo. They are joined by Silvio, a young local man. The prologue of the Opera, presented by Tonio, warns us that the subject of the action is inspired by real life and that the actors should not be considered mere comedians who entertain the spectators, but should be treated, first of all, as people, with normal feelings and feelings. see more
The ballet "La Sylphide" tells the story of a love affair between a human and an airy spirit-sylph. The opera is set in the late 1400s in a small town on the coast of the island of Cyprus and evokes the drama of love between the Moor Otello and the beautiful Desdemona. The perfidious attempt of Iago to separate the two and to remove Otello, the governor of Cyprus, from power in order to take his place, ends in a tragedy that led to the creation of one of the most beautiful and renowned operas, a true masterpiece by the composer Giuseppe Verdi. see more
