Spartacus

The figure of the Thracian gladiator Spartacus, leader of the slave revolt in the Roman Republic, has inspired numerous works of art and can be found in nearly all artistic genres and representations that have survived over time. Visual arts, theater, literature, ballet, and film have evoked this heroic character perhaps more than art has for any other figure in the universal pantheon. Spartacus symbolizes rebellion, but also the grandeur of freedom. The ballet "Spartacus," composed by the Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, stands out for its unique musicality—a classical ballet, created in a modern style, capturing the mood, tragedy, and lyrical atmosphere of that era marked by the fall of Rome. Beyond the historical context in which the ballet's action takes place, "Spartacus" remains a timeless work that emphasizes values beyond time: courage, dignity, and freedom. see more

The Marriage of Figaro

A fast-paced farce filled with glorious music, The Marriage of Figaro (in Italian Le Nozze di Figaro) is widely considered to be the greatest comic opera ever written. As the day of Figaro and Susanna’s wedding arrives, it becomes clear that their master, Count Almaviva, is hell-bent on seducing Susanna before the ceremony can take place. Susanna and Figaro conspire with the forsaken Countess to outwit her husband and teach him a lesson in fidelity. But when the teenage Cherubino involves himself in their plans, relationships become severely strained through a series of ever-more confusing twists and turns. see more

Otello

"Otello" - nicknamed the drama of love, illustrates through music and scenic portrayal a conglomerate of states, emotions, and traits inherent to human nature and attributed to Shakespearean characters: love, honor, faith, jealousy, revenge, success, hatred, power. The opera is set in the late 1400s in a small town on the coast of the island of Cyprus and evokes the drama of love between the Moor Otello and the beautiful Desdemona. The perfidious attempt of Iago to separate the two and to remove Otello, the governor of Cyprus, from power in order to take his place, ends in a tragedy that led to the creation of one of the most beautiful and renowned operas, a true masterpiece by the composer Giuseppe Verdi. see more

Iolanta

"Iolanta" is the story of a young princess who lives in isolation, unaware that she is blind. Protected by those around her, she does not know the truth about her own condition or about the world beyond her enclosed universe. An encounter with love triggers a profound process of transformation and maturity. The opera speaks of the courage to accept the truth, of love, and of the desire to live life to the fullest. Tchaikovsky’s music transforms this story into an emotionally intense and deeply human experience. see more

Coppelia

For Franz's wedding to the young Swanilda, the banker Hoffmann, one of the wealthiest men in the world, places a very special order with the inventor Coppélius. He wants to host an unforgettable party for the guests at his son's wedding, so he asks the famous inventor for an extraordinary contraption: a mechanical doll capable of seducing any man in the world. Working day and night, Coppélius manages to fulfill his request but falls victim to his own creation, obsessively falling in love with his invention, which he names "Coppélia." Coppélius wants to keep the beautiful doll for himself and doesn't reveal the secret to anyone, which is that the sacrifice of a human life can bring Coppelia to life. Who will emerge victorious from this conflict: love for life or love for creation? see more
